Bio:
Raymonito Spoonheaditas , more commonly known as ‘Spoonhead’ is a producer and live act of the ‘psygressive trance’ family. Best described as a cross-breed of bird, amphibian and mammal, Spoonhead is known for his noisy, unusual call, different for each individual, that combines bellbird-like notes with clicks, cackles, timber-like creaks and groans, and wheezing sounds—the unusual possession of 2 voiceboxes enables Spoonhead to perform such a myriad of vocalisations[citation needed].
Some of the huge range of Spoonhead’s sounds are beyond the human register. Watching a Spoonhead set, one can observe gaps in the sound when his beak is agape and throat tufts throbbing. Spoonhead will play at night, especially around the full moon period[2] through sunrise into the daylight hours.
Behaviour:
Spoonhead is a creature most suited to the morning evironment. Emerging sometime during the blue hour when things start getting a little strange and monsters are often caught fleeing from the dancefloor to hide in tents or under small rocky outcrops. He can be spotted spinning around in circles for hours on the dance floor with his hoola hoop or stretchy poi.
He spends many long hours alone recording his call and tweeking it to perfection. Always striving to make it tighter, deeper and more entrancing.
His lifestyle involves among many other things: designing & making clothing for other creatures that exist in the same habitat (www.morphic.co.nz), making music and playing the native american flute, sharing time with other creatures who enjoy this past-time and flying large kites during cold sea breezes to see how ‘high[5]‘ he can go.
Habitat:
The southern coastal shoreline of Aotearoa… New Brighton where all good pirates reside in summer!
How to spot this creature:
First off you need to locate the most likely gig, venue or party that Spoonhead will be playing. A bit of research can never go amiss.
Next you must be stealthly quiet because: Although Spoonhead is a producer, he is careful of his hearing and often wears strange fungal-like, bright orange earplugs on the dancefloor. HE HAS THE HEARING OF A BAT. This means he will hear you if you sneak up on him. He might either: Run and hide, attack with much ferocity or the most likely… introduce himself politely and continue dancing. You are therefore better of to find a concealed location and just wait patiently with some binoculars.
